Group Project for Hamlet

As a group, choose a major speech, character, or theme from Hamlet and create a web page or PowerPoint presentation that will "teach" that speech, character, or theme to the rest of the class.

Your group's choice must be claimed and approved on a first-come-first-served basis (Note: you do not "have" your topic until I have approved it--I will also make suggestions/requirements based on your choice). You will need to work together to produce your project and to make your decisions.

Now for the assignment...

Prepare a presentation that will teach your classmates about your chosen topic. This presentation should be more than simple text, and should include, at a minimum, images and links to sites that deal with your topic. However, the limit of what you can do is governed solely by your imagination and your ability to actually produce it. Including quotes and images (if legally available), the project should be the equivalent of at least 3-4 pages in 12 pt. Times New Roman text. I would recommend choosing the web page option so that you can more easily include text, but if you'd prefer, you can use PowerPoint (Note: if you do use PowerPoint, make extensive use of the Notes feature to make sure that your points are adequately developed and explained).

The purpose of your presentation should be to inform your classmates about your topic. However, it should also provide a thoughtful analysis that addresses such things as how your treatment of that topic is important to a valid understanding of the text/play, as well as how an understanding of your topic is meaningful to our lives today.

Project Requirements:

  • The Final Project (submitted to me on disk(s) or attached to an email message)
  • All rough drafts of project materials (electronic or hand written)
  • Thoughtful and substantial interpretation/analysis of topic (about 2 pages)
  • Supporting evidence from the text of Hamlet to back your claims
  • Incorporation of outside sources and multimedia elements (e.g., images, audio, etc.)
  • At least five links to quality outside sources that deal specifically with your topic
  • Absolute copyright compliance. Any outside material included in this project must be appropriately cited and all non-textual materials must be accompanied by a brief statement addressing compliance (e.g., presenting explicitly received permission, explaining why it is in the public domain or why Fair Use applies, etc.). If you are denied permission, your grade won't be affected if you demonstrate evidence that you have requested permission and were denied
  • A short, collaboratively written paragraph outlining each group member's contribution to the Project

Grading Criteria

  • Successfully Completing Project Requirements (20%)
  • Visual Presentation (20%)
  • Intellectual Merit (20%)
  • Overall Group Achievement (20%)-This will be determined by the overall quality of the Project
  • Individual Contribution (20%)--This will be determined primarily from the short paragraph mentioned in the Project Requirements, but also by other evidence in the project of your contributions.

Good luck, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
